An Educational Garden at CVR, 2019
CVR is proud to announce that we have received a generous grant of $15 000 from Québec en Forme, in collaboration with The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Quebec. Thank you to Kaylie Stuckey, our CLC technician, for her hard work coordinating this application.
The funds will be used for the construction of a pedagogical garden in the hopes of providing fresh produce for the school’s Grab’n’Go and Breakfast Club programs. Possible projects are being discussed and investigated such as the installation of an outdoor greenhouse to extend the growing season, a Nutri Tower to allow students to monitor and analyse indoor plant growth year-round, a compost bay to transform cafeteria leftovers into soil, a bee hive to promote pollination throughout the garden, etc./....
CVR’s venture will involve fellow NFSB schools, as well as local community partners to ensure the sustainability of our garden. |
This project will allow teachers to bring their lessons outdoors to study numerous topics such as germination, decomposition and pollination and to also educate students in the food lab on topics such as preserving, fermentation and properly storing produce. The committee hopes to produce herbs to be sold at various school events to fund the purchase of seeds and any materials needed in future years to continue to expand our garden.
