To the CVR Community,
I hope this finds you healthy and safe.
I’m reaching out today to share some information about CVR Course Selection, Post-Secondary Program Prerequisites, Career Exploration, Cegep Applications and Registrations for Vocational Programs and Academics (High School credits).
Registrations Open at NFSB Adult Education Centers:
I’m happy to confirm that registrations for 2020-21 are open at the NFSB Adult Education Centers: NOVA, CVCEC, & HAECC. Please visit www.nfsb.me to register for a Vocational Program or for Academics (if you are missing high school credits). Please note you must be 16 years old as old June 30th and meet certain requirements to attend an Adult Ed. Centre next year.
CVR Course Selection
Many of you may be confused about what option courses to select because you’re not sure what you want to do after high school. This is perfectly normal! There are so many options, including Vocational (Trade) and Cegep programs, and opportunities with the Canadian Armed Forces (visit www.forces.ca). These programs all have different course requirements, or prerequisites.
Some programs have advanced math and science prerequisites, while others do not. If you are interested in certain business, technical, or science programs, you will need to take advanced math and science courses in high school. In this case, you would request Technical/Science (TS/SN) Math and Environmental Science as your Gr. 10 options, which are required to take Technical/Science (TS/SN) Math, Chemistry, & Physics as your Gr. 11 options. Keep in mind you need to meet minimum grade requirements to be able to take these courses. Please refer to the CVR Course Selection Booklet to know which Cegep programs have advanced math & science prerequisites.
Career Exploration
To increase your self-knowledge and explore careers that may interest you, I suggest you use some of this time away from school to log onto www.xello.world, do the Matchmaker, Personality, and Learning Styles quizzes, then read through some of the career suggestions that are generated based on your answers. You can save to your favorites any careers that stand out to you. Don’t forget to read the interview section where people who work in each field talk about their daily tasks, training, and give valuable advice.
I will be happy to schedule an appointment with you to discuss your future academic/career plans once school resumes. Here’s how to log onto Xello:
