Arts Program
The Arts Department offers students the opportunity to develop their skills and interests in each of the disciplines of Art, Dance, Drama, and Music from beginner to advanced levels
Middle School students are provided with an opportunity to explore the four artistic disciplines – Music, Dance, Visual Arts and Drama – in order that they may discover their own strengths and potentials. Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 are free to continue on in the artistic discipline of their choice, thus, allowing for more concentrated study in one or more of the Artistic Disciplines.
The first part of the school year of the grade 11 Performing Arts option block is dedicated exclusively to the production of a major Broadway musical which is taught collaboratively. Students in this course are integrally involved in the dramatic, musical and technical aspects of the production. The second half of the year, allows for more subject specific specialization in preparation for those interested in pursuing visual arts, music, dance, theatre or technical theatre at the CEGEP or post-secondary level. The second term also traditionally features a large-scale, theme-based performance highlighting students in both grades 10 and 11. The Performing Arts Department also offers Music 534, a prerequisite theory course for those interested in entering a music program at the CEGEP level, which is open to both beginner and advanced musicians.
The new Arts Program, designed according to current curricular reforms, seeks to acquaint students with a wide variety of performance/artistic styles and experiences. Our program gives students the opportunity to explore their potential and gives voice to creative abilities and interests. It fosters self-esteem, self-discipline and communication skills. Students in the Arts learn teamwork and collaboration. In short, the Arts prepare future citizens for the workplace and the world.

CVR Flash Mob for Kindness at Open House 2012
200 students from Grades 7 to 11 at Chateauguay Valley Regional High School join in on Life Vest Inside's Worldwide Freeze/Flash Mob Dance for Kindness in November 2012!
Story: At 8:00 p.m. on November 15, students secretly made their way into the cafeteria and lobby to participate in the flash mob. When the music started, students immediately went into a frozen state without any movement leaving the audience to ponder what was happening. As the music progressed, the flash mob came alive, breaking their pose and dancing together in unison. The crowd watched and cheered as the massive student mob entertained them to raise awareness for kindness! The Mob was led by CVR's Dance and Performing arts teacher Cindel Chartrand who has hinted that perhaps there is more to come from the mob in the near future!
